The problem then is not so much the annoyance of wearing glasses, but the bank-breaking cost of kitting out your whole family with them. Thankfully Nvidia are trying their best to limit the economic burden of watching your favourite TV shows and movies in 3D.
Their new glasses (which support over 65 different types of devices including 3D Vision monitors, notebooks and projectors) come in at a reasonable $99 (compared to the $149 needed for their wireless range.) The new Nvidia specs come with a USB 2.0 cable for users to tether themselves to 3D devices. The USB cable also means that the glasses can run without batteries. As long as you don’t forget you’re hooked-up and walk off to grab a beer or go to the toilet, you’ll be fine.
Phil Eisler, General Manager of 3D Vision at Nvidia said: “3D Vision provides gamers and enthusiasts with the world’s largest ecosystem of 3D products and features. 3D fans have been waiting for more affordable glasses, and we’re expecting our new 3D Vision wired glasses to hit the sweet spot for them.”
I think you have hit the sweet spot Nvidia. If the glasses are launching at $99 (no word of when they will hit the UK), after a few months we could see them being sold for even cheaper. Long live 3D.
