Nvidia has just announced the next generation of its 3D vision gear for PC users, Nvidia 3D Vision 2.
The new system will improve on the 3D Glasses and 3D screen technology that has already been a hit, mostly with PC gamers.
Included in the kit is redesigned pair of 3D Glasses which feature larger lenses and wider arms to help them sit comfortably on your bonce. The lenses are each 20% bigger than in the previous set, which we felt were a little slim despite working perfectly.
The eyewear also has a larger area around the hinges, meaning that more external light can be blocked out, resulting in a more immersive 3D experience.
Nvidia has also developed a new tech called Lightboost, which they say will bring brighter, more vivid colours to 3D pictures, movies and games on the PC.
“Gorgeous, bright, crystal-clear 3D worlds are created by Nvidia’s 3D Vision 2 glasses with 3D LightBoost monitors and notebooks,” said Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision at Nvidia. “Nvidia’s engineering team has made incredible enhancements in 3D on PCs, creating a breathtaking gaming experience that’s better than the best Hollywood 3D movie” say Nvidia.
Lightboost is said to enhance 3D imagery by doubling the brightness of both still and moving images, as well as improving on the depth and quality of colours. Nvidia say the new tech and glasses will cleverly allow for natural light to filter through, which means you’ll be able to see your keyboard and mouse pretty clearly when you look down. The first set of Nvidia 3D vision glasses were very dark, which meant if you looked away from the PC screen, you couldn’t see a great deal. This is a very welcome improvement in our books.
As Lightboost is new tech, currently only ASUS have gotten on board and produced a compatible PC monitor, the VG278H. This is a 27 inch beast of a screen which is 3D compatible, has a HDMI 1.4 socket, Dual-link DVI inputs for Full HD gaming and a whopping resolution of 1920 x 1080. Many other screen manufacturers will be releasing Lightboost compatible screens in the coming months to provide competition to ASUS.
The Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit comprising of the new 3D Glasses and a 3D Infra-Red emitter will go on sale later this month for around £140. Extra pairs of 3D glasses will set you back around £80.
