O2 – to be followed by fellow UK Networks Orange and Vodafone – are beginning to offer their customers Twitter text and photo updates via MMS, making the most-basic of mobiles social.
From today O2 customers will be able to Tweet-thru-Text, updating their 140-character or less micro-blog from a mobile and even upload a photo for all their followers to see by sending it along the same channel.
To do so, mobile-owners on O2 will need to visit the Twitter website from a PC or Laptop and agree to match their phone to their online account. Once this is done tweetards can use their gadget’s texting feature to type the desired update or attach the photo and send it to 86444. It’ll pop up on the Twitter social net just as it would through the website or app and will be charged at the standard rate for MMS.
This is handy for those who want to stay social and keep followers updated with what’s happening but might not necessarily carry one of those fancy Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S II or HTC Sensation in their pocket, which would be capable of accessing internet-based or app-based Twitter.
