It seems some PS3s can’t handle the heat of the hotly-hyped title “L.A. Noire” – launched this week.
The release by Rockstar Games is currently rolling out on consoles including Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but a number of Sony owners have reported their gaming gadgets shutting down from overheating while solving movie-style murder mysteries and battling bad guys in a virtual 1940s Los Angeles gang land.
Rockstar snapped back at the claims of a mecha-meltdown by blaming Playstation firmware patch 3.61, which was administered as a solution to the recent hacking and intrusion of the Playstation Network and other Sony online services. The game’s publisher has now withdrawn their accusations but the original statement read:
“We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3’s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire”
“At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat. We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise” – Rockstar added.
Amends seem to have been made, but it’s still not been settled yet whether the fault lies with Rockstar and L.A. Noire or with Sony and their PS3 firmware. Let’s not forget the suggestions that the PSN was once again compromised during the password reset process – but this sounds like some kind of hardware failure, so could be totally unrelated.
Are you Playstation 3 gamer experiencing the L.A. heat – or have your other favourite titles been on lockdown since the fix hit your console?
