Samsung Galaxy S5 to come with 16MP cam, 5.25-inch screen and 4.4 KitKat?

Well it’s getting to that time of year again where all the big manufacturers in the smartphone world start lining up their next generation ranges of flagship handsets. Running out in front of the competition at the moment is Samsung, coming off the back of its massively successful Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 with the inevitable follow-up, the Galaxy S5.

Well Samsung fanatics, SamMobile has outed a list of leaked specifications for the rumoured incoming smartphone. The Galaxy S5 is likely to be one of the biggest selling smartphones of 2014 and is highly anticipated so the specifications that have been leaked are sure to drive up enthusiasm for the phone.

SamMobile claims that the Galaxy S5 will be made available in two versions: metal and plastic (take that Apple!) with the metal Galaxy S5  being priced around €800 (euros) and the plastic model being a cheaper version at around €650.

The handsets will reportedly have a 5.25-inch 2,560 x 1,440 Super AMOLED display (something that has previously been rumoured) and will come with an Exynos 6 or Snapdragon 805 processor depending on the market. On the back, a large 16-megapixel sensor will be mounted and an as yet unannounced front facing camera will be on the other side for those all-important selfies.

The device will be expected to come running the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, especially as it is rumoured to launch around March time, so the KitKat rollout will be in full flow by then.

We will also expect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to come bundled and promoted with a second generation version of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. This was backed up earlier in the month by Samsung’s executive vice president Lee Young Hee, who confirmed that a Gear successor with more advanced functions and a lighter design will also launch with the Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy S5 is expected to be officially announced in March at an event in London with the hopes of the handset landing on our shelves in April. We can also expect a slew of Samsung Galaxy S5 family devices to follow such as the S5 Zoom and the S5 Mini.
