Samsung Galaxy SII: ‘Skyrocket’ 4G variant takes off in the United States

Those lucky yanks are currently getting their 4G on with an awesome selection of gadgets beginning to roll out in the United States, leaving us Brits awaiting our fix when the 4G auction starts in early 2012. Of course with all this high speed connectivity racing through our networks, we need a super-powered smartphone to handle it all and Samsung – maker of the world’s most powerful smartphone (fact) the Galaxy SII has launched a 4G variant of the popular mobile model called Skyrocket.

Upping the processing power of the original predecessor the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket blasts off with 1.5GHz dual-core CPU with a display size boost of .2 of an inch offering a generous 4.5” Super AMOLED Plus screen, this with a resolution of 800×480 (standard for SGII). 16GB of on-board storage can be upped to 32GB on microSD card and the Skyrocket features the familiar 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording as found on previous models.

Unfortunately buyers picking up the latest variant on the popular Galaxy SII won’t be benefiting from the newest version of Google’s mobile OS – just yet. The Skyrocket will come packing current version 2.3 Gingerbread, with the option to upgrade to the recently announced 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. Delivering significant performance improvements with 4G, we were starting to think the Skyrocket could just about be perfect. In time and with all the updates it just could be.

The 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket will become available through network AT&T in the States on November 6th costing $249.99. We’d hope to see the Skyrocket land in the UK when our own 4G service becomes a reality!
