Samsung’s contender to the iPad 2 crown is finally available in the UK as of today! The Galaxy Tab 10.1 launched yesterday exclusively at the Tottenham Court Rd, London, PC World store yesterday, but is now available nationwide.
Currently only available in Wi-Fi models, you can pick up the Tab in 16, 32 and 64GB storage variants, each priced at £399, £479 and £599 respectively – that’s the same prices as the iPad 2. Each model is also available in both Black and White variations.
Samsung has confirmed that it plans to launch 3G + Wi-Fi versions of the tablet very soon, but it hasn’t confirmed when or which price. Vodafone has said it will carry the 3G version when it eventually comes out, though all other UK networks are yet to comment. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is set to be a huge product, so we would imagine most, if not all networks will want to jump aboard the good ship Samsung when the product is released.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is Thinner, Lighter and Faster than Apple’s iPad 2 according to Samsung’s latest batch of TV adverts, which you can check out here. The tablet runs Android Honeycomb 3.1 software and is a svelte 8.6mm thick, shaving 0.2mm off the iPad 2’s design to take the crown of Thinnest Tablet.
It’s also a good 40 grams lighter than the iPad 2, giving Samsung the chance to boast the lightest tablet. It’s not the lightest tablet around, of course, but considering its 10.1-inch size and in comparison to the iPad 2, it’s certainly very light.
A Dual-Core 1.2GHz Exynos processor provides the grunt behind the Galaxy Tab 10.1’s claim to the Fastest Tablet title, and it’s certainly a valid claim. Coupled with 1GB of RAM, the Tab’s 1.2GHz processor makes it extremely fast and capable of running a multitude of applications at once – ideal for email, browsing, navigation, apps and more at once while on the go.
