The latest tablet to join Samsung’s Galaxy family, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, is due to be officially announced later today at the IFA Consumer Electronics event in Berlin.
Images and specifications for the new Android tablet have leaked out ahead of schedule, giving us a sneak peak at what’s to come from Samsung.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 will run Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) along with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, just like the new Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Samsung have opted for one of their Super AMOLED Plus screens for this Galaxy Tab, so expect picture quality to be top notch – colourful, crisp and vibrant. The tab will be capable of Full HD 1080p video playback too, so movies will look pretty awesome on this device.
The 7.7 is powered by a 1.4GHz processor and a 5100mAh battery which Samsung say will last an iPad-rivalling 10 hours.
Four different storage sizes will be available; 8, 16, 32 and 64GB along with a MicroSD card slot for expanding the capacity even further.
There is a 2-megapixel camera on the front of the Tab and a 3-megapixel snapper on the rear, accompanied by an LED flash for shooting in darker light.
It seems Samsung would want you to use the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in a portrait mode rather than the conventional landscape, as they have stuck their logo on the ‘right’ edge of the tablet, and added a speaker grille on the ‘left’ edge, making the Tab look like a giant smartphone!
The rear case of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is finished in a classy-looking brushed aluminium, which is a welcome change from the gloss white or black plastic backs on the original Galaxy Tab and 10.1.
We’ll bring you more information on the Galaxy Tab 7.7 when it is announced officially by Samsung later on today.
