Skyrim soars the UK gaming charts

Some five wees after its initial launch, Bethesda’s epic RPG Sequel The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has managed to level up to hit the top spot in the UK gaming charts.

The game has taken the top spot after a tough battle with the record-smashing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which has monopolised the market since its launch over on November 8th. Modern Warfare 3 has enjoyed immense success, already collecting $1 billion in revenue in its short time on sale.

Skyrim’s been building steam, though. The RPG offers an enormous Scandinavian-style country to wade around, picking up quests and battling dragons. It’s become a sensation on online communities such as Reddit where the game’s many nuances have found themselves the subject of new memes, which has only helped its success.

That following was aided by a price drop this week, which saw Skyrim drop in price by around £13 across the board. Just Dance 3 is lurking in 3rd place, and is soaking up pre-christmas game sales in a big way, so we wouldn’t be surprised if things are different this time next week. Mario Kart 7, new in at number 10 on the 3DS, is also bound to climb dramatically as we near Christmas.
