Google only revealed Android 4.3 last night but already Sony is out of the gates, confirming that it will be bringing the latest flavour of Jelly Bean to not one, but six of its devices.
In the past Sony has been rather slow when it comes to confirming update rollouts and in some cases even worse at actually delivering the updates on time. However, it seems that with their recent push in high-end Xperia devices the company has also made a commitment to bringing the latest Android updates to them.
The company has already issued a statement which will no doubt please those who have picked up one of their new phones or tablets.
“Yesterday you probably saw Google announce the next version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) – we’re already getting stuck in and can confirm we’ll make 4.3 available for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra,”
Although it’s great news that the update will be coming to these devices, the company hasn’t yet confirmed when these updates will be available. Given that Android 4.3 is only just rolling out to Google’s own Nexus devices – our Nexus 4 is still on 4.2.2, sniff – we don’t expect to see other brands updating for a month or two.
The as yet unreleased and rather large Xperia Z Ultra will presumably upgrade much later in the year, as it isn’t scheduled to launch until September. However, some devices in the list are currently running 4.1 and awaiting 4.2 as an update. We believe it would make sense to simply skip 4.2 and go straight to 4.3, but whether this is Sony’s plan remains to be seen.
