Sony Ericsson announce the XPERIA Ray Android Smartphone

Sony Ericsson has just announced the latest in its Sony Ericsson XPERIA range of Android handsets, the XPERIA Ray.

The XPERIA Ray will feature an ultra-sharp 3.3inch Reality Display screen with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and will run from a 1Ghz processor with the latest Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 operating system installed.

The Ray will also feature a Bravia Engine for a high quality display, 8.1mp camera with Exmor R™ sensor for mobile and HD video functionality, front facing camera for video calls, a scratch resistant screen and the usual XPERIA integration of the Facebook and Twitter Timescape functionality.

Size-wise the XPERIA Ray weighs in at 100 grams and is sized at 111 x 53 x 9.4mm, making it smaller than the Xperia Neo but around the same as the X8. It also has a 4GB microSD card for storage, a stereo hands free kit and is available in Black, Gold, White and even Pink colour schemes if you are that way inclined.

The handset itself is a mid-range model set to come behind the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc but will have all the features of an Android smartphone including Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and Google features.

No information as yet on pricing and availability but the handset is set for a third quarter release date.
