Sony PlayStation 3D Display hits the UK with SimulView technology

Sony has finally launched its long awaited Sony PlayStation 3 3D Display to the UK today by selling the affordable 3D system on Amazon.com for just under £450.

Sony’s PS3 console has been 3D ready for some time and in many cases is the top 3D Blu-Ray player on the market due to its gaming features and constant updates, but Sony themselves had to delay the release of the specifically branded Playstation 3 3D display after its announcement at last year’s E3 conference.

The setup consists of a 24″ 1080p, 240Hz HD screen with two pairs active shutter glasses, plus gamers will get an additional 2 games, namely Killzone 3 Platinum and Gran Turismo 5 Platinum, all for £449.99.

But the real selling point of the Sony PlayStation 3 3D Display is the implementation of SimulView technology, which basically means that two users will be able to view the same screen (with the 3D Active Shutter Glasses) but each person will be able to view only there game screen.

So two players can play Gran Turismo 5 on the same television without the other player seeing the split screen or how well you are doing. This technology is massively useful when playing a nail-biting battle on a FPS game in your own home, and disables the age old problem or “Looking at your mates screen”.

Sony is promising 3D support for older games, though information on specific titles is not known at this point. There are currently 35 games available to play in full 3D, with eight more titles in the works. The PlayStation Video Store supports stereoscopic 3D films, and currently has 18 titles to choose from. And of course, any 3D Blu-ray will play on the display as well

We recently viewed a similar technology at the Gadget Show Live 2012 from LG so check out our blurry (Due to the 3D) video showcasing the 1 screen multiplayer action.

The PS3 3D Display bundle is available online for about £450 through most good sellers but you may want to move fast as Amazon has already sold out due to pre-order demand.
