Sony reveals Magma Red and Wave Blue DualShock 4 controllers for PS4

Last night we got the information we were waiting for from Sony regarding the PlayStation 4; the release date and release day games, but Sony did not stop there. The company also announced two new colour variations for the new DualShock 4 controllers that will be released alongside the console.

Sony will release “Magma Red” and “Wave Blue” versions of the DualShock 4 controller from release day if you are in the UK, but our friends in the US will have to wait a while before they can spice up their controller colours as Sony has stated that gamers will have to wait until later in the year to get the red and blue versions.

However, the controllers won’t be cheap as in the UK the Magma Red or Wave Blue DualShock 4s will set gamers back an additional £54 each at retail. In the US gamers will pay $59, which means that once again we in the UK are having to pay more for a gaming accessory when you work out the conversion rate.

The reason for the high price on the new controller is the tech that is inside, as the DualShock 4 controller features a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor, a three colour LED light bar on top of the remote that will illuminate in various colours to match the colour of characters in a game and a touch pad located on the front of the controller.

The new controller will offer gamers new ways of interacting and controlling games with the inclusion of gestures and touchscreen support, which should bring a whole new take on gameplay and could lead to countless new games.

We have to say that we’re not too keen on the style of the Magma Red and Wave Blue controllers as they look a little bit like a third party replacement controller from old, but it’s nice to have a bit of variation to the controllers and many parents will know the benefits of having distinguished controllers for multiple children!

The Sony PlayStation 4 will be released in the UK and Europe on the November 29th with folks in the US getting the console 2 weeks earlier from the November 15th, priced at £349, €399 and $399 respectively. Now the only question that remains is; will there be Magma Red and Wave Blue consoles to match the controllers?
