Special edition consoles are nothing new; they’ve been carving out merchandised gaming machines almost since gaming’s invention. The Xbox 360 has had a couple of makeovers to tie-in with big releases over the years, but nothing will appeal to the uber-geek more than this: the Star Wars Xbox:
Made to coincide with the upcoming release of Star Wars Kinect, the console has been swathed in colours to match the series’ most famous droids. The console itself is made to resemble R2-D2 and is replete with bespoke R2 sounds for turning the machine on, off and opening the disc tray. You should be able to hear them too, as it’s built around the redesigned, smaller and whisper quiet Xbox that Microsoft revealed in 2010.
The controller’s gold hue is meant to resemble R2’s perma-worried side-kick C-3PO, while the Kinect unit itself will be shipped in white. It’ll all be bundled with a copy of Star Wars Kinect for around £275. Will you be buying this ultimate in geek tech? Or would it ruin your living room’s black on black theme?
