As Nintendo kicks off an exciting week at the E3 event in Los Angeles, the company’s Spanish division has accidentally let slip some promotional photos showing a brand new selection of Amiibo figures. One of which is a fantastic Super Mario 30th Anniversary 8-bit figure.
Nintendo’s gold star momentum going into the biggest event on the gaming calendar is largely thanks to those cool little Amiibos and market interest in the Wii U and company profits have turned around since the first wave of figures were released a year ago. Many of those earlier Amiibo toys are now sold out and rare variants are highly sought after on ebay. Also See: Nintendo Shipping 100,000 Amiibo Figures to Spain in Massive Restock
The Amiibo range has recently welcomed a gold-plated Super Mario and a woolly Yoshi among its special editions, but the figure revealed in the leak from Nintendo of Spain is really something else and by far the coolest we’ve seen yet.
This special Super Mario Bros. figure is in celebration of NES classic, which recently became one of the first gaming titles in the World Video Game Hall of Fame. The game was released 30 years ago this September and the Amiibo features the iconic plumber in his original 8-bit form doing his signature leap from a warp pipe.

It’s a charming piece sure to appeal to Nintendo nerds who have stood by the brand since the beginning and will likely unlock some extra treats when used with the Wii U. We expect the figure will work specifically in co-operation with the Super Mario Maker game which was just announced and will showcase heavily at E3.
In addition to Super Mario, four new Amiibo figures will arrive based on characters from Animal Crossing. These figures are revealed just in time for a new Animal Crossing game which is believed to be part of Nintendo’s talked about products this week during a series of digital events.
