Twitter took to US television today to announce the arrival of its brand new #Music app for Apple iOS devices and both Mac and PC which has been making quite a bit of noise since rumours first surfaced that the social site would be making a stand-alone platform for new music discovery.

The Twitter #Music app was officially launched on Good Morning America after it was teased earlier this week when a page marker for the service went live online. The platform has been developed by music specialists We Are Hunted, a small company which Twitter snapped up late last year, and both the app and web site draw streaming music from a range of resources including Spotify, Rdio and iTunes.

Account holders of these services can sign in through the app and this brings up tiles of results relevant to our interests using trending topics and information about the artists we follow on Twitter. It offers a preview of that performer’s latest song as well as their Twitter tag so we can also enjoy all the latest news and insights from our favourite stars from across the social universe.

The Twitter #Music app’s layout carries the same vibe as the main social app and features tabs which include Suggested, Now Playing, Popular and Emerging – all of which link to specific and quite self-explanatory themes. If you’re already a Twitter social user you’ll be familiar in no time with how it all functions but this one is specifically designed for the music lover.

The software is tuning up now and will become available from the Apple App Store for Twitter users in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand throughout today (UK is currently live!) www.music.twitter.com

We await news of an Android launch for Twitter #Music and hope to hear of one soon.
