Nokia and its Symbian software’s last hurrah smartphone, the Pureview 808, has been turning heads wherever it has appeared in recent months, but news is coming in that even though the mega 41-megapixel camera smartphone is popular in the news it’s is being shunned by UK networks in favour of the more hyped Nokia Lumia Windows Phone range.
Since its announcement back at the Mobile World Congress in February, the out-of-favour Symbian Belle OS-running Pureview has been piquing high-end tech users’ interests, but as well as battling against its showboating Lumia handset brothers the Pureview 808 and Symbian have a lot of bad stigma surrounding them.
Tech website Wired UK is reporting that this is why most of the major UK phone networks are passing on supporting the handset. Wired reports that O2 will definitely will not be carrying the Nokia 808 but also claims to have confirmation from Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone regarding them not stocking the phone.
Three is still tight lipped on the phone stocking situation, so there could be hope for Nokia yet, but fans of the Symbian OS or just people who want the handset can still get their hands on a Nokia 808 Pureview SIM-free from most retailers such as Amazon or Clove.
The Nokia Pureview 808 comes with Nokia’s own Symbian operating software (current standard Belle) and it displays on a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch-screen which is supported by a 1.3GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of on-board memory.
The handset’s main event is its massive 41-megapixel super-sharp shooting camera, the focal point of this innovative smartphone. The Pureview 808 features top-end Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and allows you to shoot 38 megapixel stunningly high resolution snaps, or five at an even impossibly greater resolution where each pixel is formed from seven smaller ones. As well as stills, the camera can capture 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second
If you are keen on a massive camera on your smartphone but not so much on taking on Symbian Belle, then Nokia has reassured customers that it already has intentions to bring the Pureview technology to its range of Windows Phone devices in the next year.
We will keep you updated on any networks picking up the handset in the coming months (they have been known to change their minds!) but until then users can pick up the Nokia 808 Pureview for around £500 from the 30th of June.
