Virgin is planning a new update for its clever TiVo boxes, which will see the service become Spotify compatible, iOS app friendly and more.
Simon Hunt, Product Director, issued a statement on the Virgin Media Forums and said: “This week we have begun a limited pilot of our next TiVo software release.
“This new software includes many new improvements as well as key developments that will enable the launch of future products. We’ll be rolling it out to everyone well before Christmas.”
Some of the new features you can expect include support for Spotify and the update will support the music streaming software’s high quality audio– so you can expect your premium subscription to work perfectly.
They will also be adding iOS support, meaning you will be able to download the TiVo iOS app which will be able to control your TV through your iPad or iPhone. The app will also let you set the TiVo box to record from wherever you are – very handy indeed.
Virgin Media will also update the boxes so you can finally take advantage of the red button services found on BBC, ITV and most importantly Sky Sports.
Other updates will come to YouTube, where the service will be redesigned and will now be able to play videos in high definition.
They’ve also changed the way Catch-up TV through BBC iPlayer works. Every BBC iPlayer programme will now be available through Search & Browse, including much more HD content, and you’ll never use up a tuner for BBC iPlayer viewing.
Other changes have been made with PIN entry requirements so it should suit every household. In the new update, PIN challenges on pre-watershed playback of programmes in My Shows become optional. They’ve also added the ability to require PIN to access any application.
Finally, they have apparently addressed the issue with the picture quality on standard definition signal, with the new update featuring better standard definition picture quality with improved upscaling to HD.
