If you’ve not upgraded your iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1 yet, don’t. That’s the message Vodafone UK is currently sending out to its customers, warning against upgrading due to 3G issues.
The update came out for all iPhone 4S users on January 28th, and now a little less than two weeks later Vodafone UK is warning its customers against installing the update. Text messages were sent to iPhone users over the course of this past weekend;
“If you’ve not already downloaded iOS 6.1 for your iPhone 4s, please hold off for the next version while Apple fixes 3G performance issues. Thanks”
It’s a bit of an odd-looking message to receive from your network but one clearly sent with some sort of sudden urgency. Whilst neither Vodafone nor Apple has elaborated on the 3G performance issues mentioned, Vodafone customers have recently been reporting issues with picking up 3G, being unable to send text messages and other signal related problems.
The iOS 6.1 update only added 4G compatibility for the iPhone 5 and iPad 4 in more countries and the option to buy cinema tickets using Siri in the US, but it also seems to have caused problems with older devices.
A particular thread on Apple’s support forum has fast filled up with 4S users reporting a significant drop in battery life after updating to the new software, with some even reporting that their phones were overheating. One user reported his 4S losing 94% battery life within 6 hours, and that was with very little usage.
