If you’re a Wii U owner in the UK or Europe you may be interested to know that the console’s latest system update is available this week and will allow all data held on one Wii U console to be transferred to another.
The System Transfer feature can now be found in System Settings section. Data, stored game content and digital downloads can be shifted to SD card, along with profile and personal settings, for use on a new console.
This is handy if you’re upgrading from a Wii U Basic 8GB to a Premium 32GB console, however it’s worth noting that this process will also fully factory format the source machine meaning you’ll not have duplicate copies of games and will be left with one blank Wii U.
Nintendo has also advised that if on the other hand you wish to downscale from 32GB to 8GB base console this is possible but you’ll need to have an external drive connected via USB to support the additional data.
Update 5.1.0.U will also allow use of additional controllers in the Nintendo eShop, no longer restricting it to just being navigated on the Gamepad, and expands to Wii Remote as well as Wii U Pro and Classic Controller.
The firmware is now available in our region of the world and Japanese Wii U owners installing it will also be the first to get to try out the Nintendo eShop wallet which uses touch cards and the Gamepad’s NFC capabilities to add funds and make payment. We’ll try to keep you updated on if and when the payment method rolls out over here.
