Reports are emerging that Windows Live Messenger is set to make its first appearance on the Google Android mobile platform. Despite being “official” and backed by Microsoft the app’s development will be handled by veteran social app creator Miyowa.
Miyowa has worked on social apps for Blackberry, Twitter and Facebook since 2003 and it’s not the first time the company has created for Microsoft – Miyowa are the group behind current Windows Live Messenger on Windows Phone 7.
Up until recently Microsoft had produced its own mobile versions of the popular Messenger service (“MSN” to the kids) but now it seems the future lies in the hands of Miyowa, essentially a contractor, whose previous forays into the social apps market have been with somewhat poor impressions – particularly in regards to the Windows Live Messenger on Windows Phone 7.
The Windows Live Messenger application will be free, but ad-supported, and will drop on Android-enabled gadgets ranging from 1.6 onwards and it’s been suggested this will become available within days.
