Windows Phone 7.8 Update Causes Problems with Live Tiles on Nokia Lumia 800 & 900

It would appear that a number of users of the Windows Phone platform on smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 900 have been experiencing issues with the latest update to version 7.8.

The update was launched in late January, with Microsoft promising a selection of useful additions like internet sharing, Bluetooth file transfers, a number of camera extras and customizable Live Tiles. It’s the latter which has seemingly developed a bug during the roll out of Windows Phone 7.8.

Third party apps on the Nokia mobiles are said to be the ones affected and with the Live Tile changes these are continually attempting to update while annoyingly gobbling up users’ data allowance. The issue is also affecting volume controls and settings and may not be strictly contained to Nokia products as HTC users are also beginning to report similar problems on Windows Phone devices such as the HTC Radar.

A temporary solution to the Live Tiles ordeal has been suggested – tap and hold on a Tile to unpin these troublesome shortcuts from the home screen, which seems to do the trick while Microsoft works on an official fix. The Gadget Helpline will follow this story and deliver the latest developments here on the blog.
