It would appear that somehow, the folk over at WMPoweruser have managed to get their hands on what is reported to be a leaked roadmap of up and coming Windows Phone plans that are due in 2012.
According to the alleged roadmap, we’ll be seeing the next Windows Phone update named Tango make an appearance in the second quarter of next year. And according to the description, it would seem that it’s not going to be a release that will be full of new features; instead it would seem that the focus of this version is to get Windows Phone on low-end handsets and therefore give the potential new users the “best prices” possible.
As it would seem that this version of Windows Phone is aimed at low-end devices, we’re not quite sure whether that means it will only be available for entry devices, and therefore perhaps have a reduced amount of features compared to the Mango update, in order to make it cheaper? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
Also, in the last quarter of 2012 we should be treated to the Apollo update of the Windows Phone OS, which according the roadmap, should introduce “Competitive Superphones” and also address the needs of business users as well.
If this information turns out to be true, I would say that 2012 could be quite an interesting year for Windows Phone and Microsoft.
