The launch period for Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox games console may well have been revealed well ahead of time, something which is bound to annoy the software giant.
Halo creator Bungie has kept things very much ‘under wraps’ with regards to doing anything for Microsoft’s next console. They led the way for both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 with the Halo series of games, so it would make sense for them to develop a launch title for the Xbox 720.
Although it’s not going to be another Halo title that seems to be exactly what Bungie plans to do. Details of a contract drawn up between Bungie and its publisher Activision have been revealed, showing that Bungie is currently creating a game for the Xbox 720 called ‘Destiny’. Further to that, Destiny is said to be launching in the autumn of 2013.
The contract was drawn up around 2 years ago, so we need to bear in mind that details may have changed since, including the launch date. However, we’ve already received plenty of confirmation from Microsoft that it will not be launching a new console this year, nor will it be exhibiting one next month at the annual E3 gaming expo.
According to the contract, Activision had plans to launch Bungie’s ‘Destiny’ title for the Xbox 720 console late next year. Being such a massive games developer for the Xbox platform already, it certainly adds some meat to launch date – it now looks more likely that Microsoft will reveal and demonstrate the Xbox 720 at next year’s E3 event, launching it later that year in time for Christmas.
Bungie and Activisions contract, which has been revealed due to a lawsuit taken out by Activision’s Blizzard Company against ex-Call of Duty developers, also tells us that Bungie will be creating no fewer than three sci-fantasy, action shooter games. It will also be creating a sequel to Destiny – unsurprisingly called ‘Destiny 2’ – for the Playstation 4, although it doesn’t say when Sony’s console will launch.
Will we see Microsoft reveal the Xbox 720 at next year’s E3?
