Microsoft LinkedIn profiles further proof that Xbox ‘Next Gen’ is imminent?

Following last week’s Xbox 720 tease which appeared in the trailer for Hugh Jackman’s new robot movie Real Steel, Microsoft employees have let slip more clues which very likely indicate that work on the company’s future console is well under way.

An employee profile on LinkedIn – or ‘Facebook for the business professional’ – states that Jeff Faulkner is Microsoft’s “Xbox Next Gen Creative Director” and that Mr. Faulkner has held the position since January of 2011. That‘s saying he’s been working in the role, and probably the Xbox 720 – as rumour would call it, for the last nine months.

Checking out the CVs of some of Jeff’s colleagues, you’ll find Jonathan Harris. Also a “Senior Creative Director for Xbox” who’s LinkedIn presence informs us that he’s been “designing the next generation of entertainment” for even longer than his fellow SCD – 14 months in fact. That’s a staggering amount of time for a new console to be conceived. Need more proof?

Check out Patrick Corrigan. Now a former employee of Microsoft, his profile reads that for the first part of 2011 he worked on “providing groundwork and integration for branding elements for next-gen Xbox on all forms of media. Ranging from print to UI across future releases of the Xbox platform.”

Microsoft has adamantly reinforced the fact that the Xbox 360 console is based around a ten year plan, which we are now just over the half way point. With the Xbox 720 logo appearing in the Real Steel film – which features heavy Microsoft product placement – is this undeniable proof that the company is trying to tell us something big is coming and sooner than we expected?

The second generation of Microsoft gaming gadget, the Xbox 360, was released in 2005 and succeeded the original Xbox which reaches its own ten year anniversary next month.
