Microsoft has responded to player requests to increase the multitasking, media access and social networking aspects of the Xbox One in the upcoming October update, which has just been detailed over at the official Xbox website. The update is part of a monthly series of tweaks and improvements to Microsoft’s console which attempt to keep it up to date with trends and competitors around the globe.
The update mainly focuses on the Snap App, which has been updated to increase the availability of features on quick access. The Snap App lets you run smaller versions of major apps whilst a game is running.
“A double tap of the Xbox button on your controller will bring up a menu that allows you to open a new app in snap mode, close the current snapped app, or switch focus between your game and your running snapped app.” Says the release.

In addition, the Friends and Messages apps have both been optimised for Snap mode, so you can message your friends or connect with users whilst in a game.
The Achievements section also now allows you to caption your recent cheevos with statements of triumph, then share them with friends. Again, the Achievements app is not Snap optimised.
The friends section has also seen a bit of a revamp, with friends activities available at a glance, including changes in GamerScore, hours played on games, what games are played and other statistics, similar to Steam Community features.
SmartGlass features have been expanded to include a list of your top games in your profile. You can now also see a list of your friend’s most popular games in the Friend’s section of SmartGlass.
