Yahoo Launches Axis Web Browser for iPhone, iPad and Desktop

Today Yahoo has launched a brand new and intriguing web browser that works on your PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. It’s called Axis, and it uses Yahoo’s search engine heavily to produce a new and intuitive way of searching.

Axis brings web browsing and searching together as one, rather than having them separate as with other browsers such as Chrome and Safari. It splits your browsing screen into the page you’re looking at and a bar dedicated to search and search results.

You start a search as you normally would using the search bar at the top, and Yahoo will find results as you type and list them below. Not only does it list your search results as you type – just as Google does with its autocomplete – it shows the top search results along with thumbnail images in a vertical row, which you can tap or click on to open before you’ve even finished typing your search query.

Axis is a free download for PC and Mac from axis.yahoo.com and it acts as a plug-in for your existing browser so that you don’t need to switch It’s also free to download to iPhone and iPad from the App Store. Similarly to Chrome for Android, Axis will remember where you last browsed on any device and offer to reconnect you to that page when you next open the browser on any device. This means you can easily pick up your iPhone or iPad, leave your PC and continue where you left off pretty easily.

From our initial look at Axis it looks very promising and fits in well with the overall look and feel of Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Safari already has a built in search feature for iPhone and iPad users but we can see Axis being a welcome change.
