Youtube have just announced the roll out of a new live video streaming service, Youtube Live.
Currently the service is in Beta, meaning it is the first trial run of the new service. At present there isn’t a huge amount of live content available, and changes may be made by Youtube as it goes along.
Youtube users with accounts in good standing will be able to provide live video content on their channels, which users can then stream directly through the live section of the Youtube site. You’ll be able to subscribe to a live broadcaster’s channel, and be notified in advance of any upcoming live streams.
There will also be some live TV content through a couple of partners that Youtube have paired up with for the beta release. Youtube say the main goal is to “provide thousands of partners with the capability to live stream from their channels in the months ahead”.
We’re interested to see just how much live TV content Youtube gets onboard, and whether it will try to rival services like BBC’s iPlayer and Seesaw.
