Spec details have been released for the YouView telly gadget – revealing the tech behind the BBC-backed IPTV service to allow developers and industry manufacturers a chance to get in tune with the service and produce compatible devices in time for the “next-gen” freeview box’s eventual public release.
YouView will bring together all terrestrial television broadcasts and connected services and make them available to viewers through one freeview box, via a broadband connection. Youview’s website states “We’ve made this specification available here to help device manufacturers bring products to market utilising the same underlying technologies as a YouView device”
The release cover adds “The specification will also give those manufacturers interested in developing and deploying a device under the YouView brand a broad understanding of what will be required.”
The specifications focus on high-quality delivery, anti-piracy and content protection for the content providers, and also “device configurations that are relevant to ISPs”
