NFC or Near Field Communication has certainly gained popularity over the last few months, especially with Google announcing their new Wallet app for Android which utilises the new technology for mobile payments. Well, now it would seem that Sony Ericsson is the latest manufacturer who is planning a new NFC Android device for sometime in the near future.
The news comes as Semiconductors N.V have announced that they will be supplying Sony Ericsson with their NXP PM65 NFC chip for future Android smartphones.
Jan Uddenfeldt, Chief Technology Officer at Sony Ericsson said “NFC offers our consumers the ability to broaden their communication experience beyond the phone, and we are poised to drive the development of new, exciting and creative entertainment experiences. Building on Sony Ericsson’s leadership in Android and mobile gaming, the integration of near field communication into our Android-based Xperia™ portfolio is another step in delivering the most entertaining smartphones.”
Hopefully it won’t be too long before we get to see these new Android devices in action, and should we get any information about these new devices, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
