This coming June you’ll be able to recycle your unwanted PCs, mobile phones and a selection of other gadgets in Asda stores. That’s right – the same place many do their weekly grocery shop.
An Asda spokeperson speaking of the Tech Trade-in scheme says “There are more mobile phones in the UK than people, for example, so there is a lot of cash out there waiting to be released. Our tech trade-in service means customers can now save even more on their gadget purchases at Asda or use the bounty to save on the cost of day-to-day living.”
Supermarket rival Tesco have already joined the ever-growing tech-swap-shop market joining dedicated names such as Mazuma and Envirophone, and come mid-2011 Asda will offer what they claim to be the “best price paid pledge to beat trade-ins elsewhere” on household electrical items.
Tradable goods will include desktop and laptop computers along with mobile phones, sat navs, MP3 players and games consoles. However, Asda already offer games trade-ins and market research sees the price promise is actually beaten by high street retailers such as GAME and CEX.
