Mass Symbian Anna update coming to Nokia Phones

Nokia has pulled the big switch on all its Symbian OS running devices which will bring down a mass update to the handsets to the latest Symbian Anna update to fourteen Nokia handsets in total being one of the biggest updates Nokia has mass rolled out ever.

The new Anna firmware will bring a host of new features to the dwindling Symbian OS including access to improved browser Web 7.3, updated Ovi Maps, the addition of emoticons for SMS and MMS.

The ‘Anna’ update will also bring a few key changes to the Symbian handsets including real homescreen scrolling, QWERTY onscreen keyboard in portrait orientation as well as updated screen icons.

Nokia is set to handout firmware updates in stages, with unbranded phones set to receive theirs first and operator-branded phones at a later date. The following handsets are set to receive the updates:

  • Series 60 3rd Edition
  • Nokia E72 (rolling out now)
  • Nokia E52 (rolling out now)
  • Nokia E5 (rolling out now)
  • Nokia C5-00
  • Nokia 6700 Slide

Series 60 5th Edition

  • Nokia C6-00 (rolling out now)
  • Nokia C5-03
  • Nokia 5230 (rolling out now)
  • Nokia 5235
  • Nokia 5250
  • Nokia X6
  • Nokia N97 mini (not N97 due to lack of storage space)
  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
  • Nokia 5530 XpressMusic

So to get the updates it’s a bit of a waiting game but you can manually check for updates yourself or just keep an eye out for an update onscreen
