UK retailer GAME is stopping sales of previously owned first edition Xbox 360 consoles due to the Microsoft gaming platform’s large rate of fail.
The official word to GAME employees is that interest in the first-gen console is falling and that “as of Saturday 3rd September we will not be selling Pre-owned Xbox 360 Cores, Arcades and 20GB non HDMIs. This is due to the high failure rate of the console and the difficulty and cost of repairing them.”
“We will continue to trade these consoles in but they will need to be sent back to the DC as a regular faulty return where they will exit the business.”
The ‘Red Ring of Death’, those three flashing red lights around the Xbox 360 power button instead of the one to four green lights indicating that the console had an internal failure, which has plagued the Xbox 360 since the very beginning back in 2005 is the main fault that gamers experience with the console and sources report the real reason for GAME and Gamestation stores is that the number of returned units has become overwhelming.
The Xbox 360 is not the only console in peril. We have to wonder whether Nintendo’s 3DS will be soon to join UK retailer’s list of discarded consoles some time soon, following its own mountain of misfortunes. Read the Gadget Helpline’s article about Nintendo’s troubles – here.
