The folks behind the extremely popular Instagram app for iOS, have today revealed that an Android version is currently in development and will be available for Android devices.
The popularity of the Instagram app for iOS is massive, there is currently around 14 million users. No doubt it’s success is down to the fact that it’s user friendly, and the effects and filters that are included mimic that of a high-end quality photo suite. Along with the ability to create visually appealing pictures using the available effects, users are also able to easily share the photographs via social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Foursquare and also Posterous.
When released, the Instagram app for Android will be free to download, however will be supported by advertisements – but that’s unlikely to put off users considering that vast majority of great free apps on the market show ads anyway.
Although the developers have announced that the Android app is currently in development, unfortunately they haven’t hinted as to when the app may be completed. However, it’s thought that it will make its way to the Android market sometime in early 2012. As ever, as soon as we know a little bit more, we’ll let you know.
