Back in May the Gadget Helpline shared a list of HTC smartphones confirmed for the Android update to version 4.0. But now a Canadian network has thrown a shadow of doubt over the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich on the HTC Desire HD.
There was question over whether the now-dated mobile which was released in October 2010 would be included in the roll out, and we were delighted to see our old pal had made the cut. But all that appears to have suddenly changed and according to Canada’s carrier Telus, “HTC has cancelled the HTC Desire HD ICS upgrade due to poor device performance during testing.” With this news breaking overseas and with no official word on the matter, things might be different over here in the UK but we shouldn’t count on it.
Despite the still reasonable spec which sees a 1GHz single-core Qualcomm processor running the Desire HD, supported by 785GB of RAM and a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen to display some still respectable visuals, this news will come as a disappointment to those left clutching onto their handsets while devices such as the One X will head onto even better things with the arrival of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
We would have thought HTC had some sensible solution to ensure its Desire HD could still get the upgrade to ICS even if it came at the sacrifice of a full version of its own software Sense, which they’ve made before to ensure all handsets that could update had chance to do so in some form or another.
