Twitter #Music was launched last week and within those few days Spotify has narrowly beaten Apple iTunes to become the people’s favourite when it comes to streaming songs through the dedicated new audio app.
The #Music app was officially announced on Thursday’s edition of the ‘Good Morning America’ TV show and went available shortly afterwards on devices running Apple’s very own software iOS as well as through a new website. Twitter #Music draws in trending tunes and artists allowing social networkers to keep up to date with the latest hot tracks and tweets from chart toppers such as ‘Gangnam Style’ sensation Psy and R&B star Rihanna.
This information is gathered by Twitter acquisition company We Are Hunted and users of the software can choose to sign into a choice of iTunes, Spotify or Rdio accounts to stream the music directly through the #NowPlaying portion of the #Music app.
Social media statistics company Simply Measured reports in the early stages it was Spotify that received the most recorded sign-ins in a 24hour period through the new Twitter service with 11,984. Apple iTunes follows very closely with 11,612 sign-ins and upstart Rdio received just 3,456 in the same period.
