Nintendo Releases Wii U Minor Update (3.1.0)

Nintendo has released a Wii U update – but it maybe not quite the performance update we were hoping for. Nonetheless this routine system refresh will fix a few recognised bugs and also adds some new tricks to improve background features.

Nintendo says we can expect non-descript improvements to stability and usability from this week’s update (3.1.0) and the Wii U will now be able to check for its own software updates while the console is idle in standby mode. We hope that it’ll soon be picking up the major system update as promised by the often apologetic Nintendo President Satoru Iwata but this isn’t expected any time before  October.

Wii U owners can get the update today by entering the Wii U Menu and going to System Settings followed by System Update. Since this is quite a minor one, there shouldn’t be much of a wait but providing on your connection quality updates can take up to an hour to complete.
