Apple has dropped a clanger recently about their highly celebrated Apple Watch – your online pre-order gives you a much better chance of actually getting your hands on one than turning up on stores on release day. It’s just not going to happen apparently.
Apple quietly announced the other day that the release date for store bought Apple Watches would be pushed back to June, also changing the release date on their website from April 24th to simply “The Watch is coming”. Anyone who wanted to go get theirs the more traditional way without waiting for it to arrive in the mail will be sorely disappointed – but remember, it’s coming.

An internal memo from within the company managed to leak out to the internet – apparently Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts sent out the word that the device wasn’t going out to stores yet to the entire company.
“Are we going to launch every product this way from now on? No. We all love those blockbuster Apple product launch days – and there will be many more to come,” the memo said.
“It’s important to remember that Apple Watch is not just a new product but an entirely new category for us. There’s never been anything quite like it.” the memo continued.
“To deliver the kind of service our customers have come to expect – and that we expect from ourselves – we designed a completely new approach. That’s why, for the first time, we are previewing a new product in our stores before it has started shipping.”
So basically, the device isn’t going to go on sale in store, you’ll be asked to buy it online following your fun and games at the Apple Watch testing counter. All the fanfare and the hype, all those special display cases to gawp at, all those demonstration staff to chat to, but you won’t be able to take one home with you until June.

it’s not that bad a setback – you can at least use the opportunity to go and mess around with the Apple Watch, pretending you’re well off enough to buy one. Just head down to your local Apple store looking smart, and when you’ve had your fun, loudly proclaim you’re off home to buy one online. Nobody will know you’re really going to spend the day watching Netflix in your pajamas instead. Perfect.
