Asus Eee Pad Transformer To Get Ice Cream Sandwich First

  • by

One of our favourite Honeycomb devices is the Asus Eee pad Transformer and we’re glad to inform you that it will be the first Honeycomb tablet to receive the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Asus has done commendable work in making sure their Eee Pad is the most up-to-date tablet around, as it was also the first tablet to get updated to Android Honeycomb 3.2 a couple of months ago.

Announced in tandem with the unveiling of Google’s Android Ice Cream and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, a Asus Spokesman said: “[The] Transformer will be getting update to ICS – but we can’t provide a schedule at this stage.”

The announcement means that Asus is once again ahead of the competition again from the likes of the Motorola Zoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Asus’ Eee pad was chosen as the first device to show off Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich’s predecessor, Honeycomb, at Google’s launch event earlier this year.

The new unified OS for tablets and phones comes with a whole raft of new features including replacing physical buttons for software equivalents, new facial recognition to unlock the phone, the ability to group apps and shortcuts together, NFC technology and a new app called Android beam for stress-free sharing and enhanced voice input.

Andy Rubin, Google’s Senior VP for mobile, has said that the Ice Cream Sandwich update would be rolling out a couple of weeks after the Samsung Galaxy Nexus goes on sale – thought to be sometime towards the end of November.

Asus has also confirmed that its upcoming Eee Pad Transformer 2 will also receive the update and if you want a teaser at what Asus has planned for the follow-up to the Eee pad check out the latest teaser video, which Asus released today.
