Research in Motion has announced that their Blackberry Internet Service has finally returned to normal after yesterday’s huge outage that left millions of BlackBerry users across Europe and the UK without internet, email and Blackberry Messenger.
The official statement reads: “Yesterday, some BlackBerry subscribers in the EMEA region experienced delays with BlackBerry services. The issue was resolved and services are operating normally. We apologize to those customers who were impacted for any inconvenience.”
Access to internet services went down at around 11 AM UK time yesterday, and continued through until very late in the night. Several of the team at The Gadget Helpline use BlackBerry smartphones, and they were out of an internet connection until early this morning.
RIM announced yesterday to Blackberry users and mobile networks that they were “working to resolve an issue impacting some BlackBerry subscribers”. This message was relayed by our mobile networks, with T-Mobile in particular doing a great job of informing their customers via Twitter.
Things were just on the up for Research in Motion and the BlackBerry brand, as they have recently announced a large selection of next-generation smartphones including the Curve 9360, Torch 9810 and Bold 9900. RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie also announced a new NFC-based tap-to-share app for BlackBerry yesterday, known as BlackBerry Tag.
Were you affected by yesterday’s outage? Is your BlackBerry back to working as normal now, or are you still having trouble?
