British Games Publisher Codemasters Reborn & Revs Up as “Codemasters Racing”

Legendary British games studio Codemasters is set to retire from the action adventure genre it helped make famous since 1986, but from the dust the creator of the iconic Dizzy platform series will get engines revving as they concentrate on racing games, as the appropriately named Codemasters Racing.

The first title from Codemasters Racing will be DiRT Showdown to be released on May 25th and the publisher will also focus on its other successful genre titles such as Grid and F1 to deliver what communications chief Rich Eddy (who sounds like a race driver himself) refers to in an interview as the “best-in-class racing games”.

In the article with MCV Eddy says “In racing, we are No.2 in Europe and that’s not good enough. We want to take racing games across multiple platforms and genres. So that players can play anytime, anywhere and on any device. Racing is our DNA, it is our heritage, it is our specialisation and it is our absolute focus going forward.”

Codemasters Racing will also be starting up a social online gaming community called Racenet which will further promote their “razor focus” in the motorsports section of the gaming market.
