Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ‘Nuketown 2025’ map reinstated after removal

Much to our delight, Treyarch has confirmed that the Nuketown 2025 bonus multiplayer map will be staying in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, for now at least.

Many gamers, including several of the Gadget Helpline team, eagerly paid a little extra and pre-ordered the special edition just to get the bonus map. The map is a twist on the classic shotgun-fest that first appeared in the original Black Ops title, and hence it holds a high nostalgic value for many CoD fans.

However, after this weekend and merely a few days of the game being out, the game’s design director David Vonderhaar tweeted some bad news: “Double XP weekend is official over. That means Nuketown 2025 / 24-7 is as well. I know. RIGHT? Don’t kill the messenger,”

Some sort of solace was offered by Vonderhaar not long after this tweet, with Custom Games suggested if gamers really wanted to get some Nuketown action. Custom Games is a very rarely used feature though, and as some gamers quite vocally proclaimed through social media outlets, it’s not how they want to play Nuketown.

The additional map that many had paid extra for the privilege of playing was removed from almost all of the online multiplayer game modes. After a few days of outcry from the community, Treyarch has reinstated the map by adding it as part of its Chaos Moshpit playlist.

Vonderhaar again tweeted: “You killed the messenger, but I still fight for the users. RT to #bringbackNuketown2025 and we will add to a small maps moshpit,”

We’re not entirely sure why Treyarch removed the map in the first place, let alone why it took campaigning from gamers on Twitter to get it back. Nevertheless, Nuketown 2025 has joined Carrier, Cargo, Express, Hijacked, Slums and Standoff in the Chaos Moshpit playlist.
