Computex 2013: Asus announces MeMo Pad HD 7 and MeMo Pad FHD 10 tablets

At the Computex conference today in Taipei Asus has announced a boatload of new tech and one of the latest of its announcements is a Nexus-like Asus MeMo Pad HD7, as well as a larger 10 inch MeMo Pad FHD 10 tablets, both of which run the Android OS.

The 7-inch HD 7 appears to be an Asus branded version of the Google Nexus 7 – Asus did make the hardware for the Nexus tablets, after all – but this time around the HD7 is sporting a decent 5 megapixel rear camera, micro SD slot and a multitude of different colours, all of which are things many wish the Nexus 7 offered..

The HD7 will come sporting a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display with a quad-core A7 Qualcomm CPU and 1GB RAM, plus an additional 1.2 megapixel camera on the front of the device and a decent sized battery that promises to last 10 hours from a single charge.

The HD7 is available in a 8 and 16GB versions and they will retail for $129 (£85) and $149 (£100) respectively, although the 8GB will mostly be available in emerging markets. Asus tells us that only the 16GB model will go on sale in the UK – in August – priced at £149.

The MeMo Pad FHD 10 is a 10-inch variant of the tablet that is 9.5mm thick and 580g light and comes rocking a Full HD IPS screeen(hence the 10 ‘FHD’ name), which means a massive 1920 x 1200 resolution. It runs off an Intel Atom Z2560 1.6GHz processor and also has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera.

Asus is keen to flaunt the tablet’s HD qualities as the FHD 10 will offer 1080p video playback and recording and it features Asus’ SonicMaster audio technology along with Miracast, allowing users to connect the tablet to a Wi-Fi-enabled TV or projector to share movies.

Like the MeMo Pad HD 7, the FHD 10 comes with a micro SD card slot for memory expansion on top of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, with 5GB of free lifetime Asus Web Storage coming with each tablet to bump that up.

There is no official UK pricing for the HD7 or the FHD 10 just yet but the devices will go on sale in September in Royal Blue, Silk White and Vivid Pink colours.
