Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6 and 6.1 now available – iPhone 5 and iPad Mini compatible

The first jailbreak solution for iOS 6 and 6.1 devices such as the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini is here, and it’s now ready for you to download and use.

We learnt last week that a jailbreak tool known as evasi0n was close to launch after plenty of hard work was put in by a group of the most well-known iOS jailbreakers around. That software is now readily available for the public to download and use, although we’d advise to exercise caution and do a little research into jailbreaking if you’ve not done it before.

For those not in the know, the process of jailbreaking effectively gives you access to a world of stuff you can do with an iOS device that Apple wouldn’t want you to – change themes, install apps that aren’t on the App Store, tweak the notification bar to look how you want it to, etc.

The evasi0n jailbreak is untethered, which is the better of the two methods. This means that you don’t have to worry about re-jailbreaking your device every time it runs out of battery or has to be restarted – something you have to to with a ‘tethered’ jailbreak.

If you’re feeling confident and you want to free yourself of Apple’s grip, evasi0n can be downloaded now and used on Windows, Mac and Linux to jailbreak a whole host of devices. The website states that the jailbreak will work with all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch models running iOS 6 through to iOS 6.1.

It’s worth noting that whilst it’s technically illegal to jailbreak a tablet computer in the US, it’s perfectly legal to jailbreak a mobile phone. Tread carefully!
