HTC confirms no Jelly Bean update for Desire C and One V handsets

HTC’s update schedule for Android phones is chugging along at a slow pace with the One X and One S currently in line to get a taste of Jelly Bean. However, for those with HTC’s cheaper Android phones, the company has confirmed whether or not you’ll be getting the new software.

Unfortunately it’s bad news for Desire C and One V owners, with both phones confirmed to be staying on Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

A recent FAQ post by the Taiwanese manufacturer confirms the bad news, which is brought about by hardware limitations. To be fair to the company we weren’t expecting their lower-end phones to be getting the very latest version of Android, with low specifications making for hard work when it comes to getting new software to work smoothly.

The company says that devices with 512MB of RAM or less will not be getting the update, which they identify as being the One V and Desire C, both of which have exactly 512MB. The recently launched Desire X, which is also a budget handset, should hopefully get Jelly Bean thanks to its 768MB of RAM.

At present only the One X and One S are set to receive the update, with some regions already in the process of updating. HTC says it is currently reviewing its device portfolio to see which other products will be eligible for Jelly Bean, so we could see more added yet. The newly released One X+ does of course come with Jelly Bean pre-loaded.
