HTC Doubleshot: Gingerbread Android smartphone rumoured ahead of launch

  • by
HTC seems to be working for the reputation of world’s most prolific smartphone manufacturer. Just months after the launch of the HTC Incredible S, and just weeks after the HTC Desire S and the new flagship – the HTC Sensation – we’ve got word of a new handset on the way: the HTC Doubleshot.

Little is known about the mystery handset, but there are a slew of reported specs that point to the device being a bit of a powerhouse. According to rumours, the device will sport a slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with a 800 x 480 WVGA resolution display. Inside, we’re looking at Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and HTC Sense UI 3.0, which puts it at the very forefront of both Google’s mobile OS spectrum and HTC’s user experience overlays.

The processor is said to be a 1.2GHz number, but it’s not clear whether this will be doubled thanks to dual-core tech. Given the name, we’d suggest that the Doubleshot is almost guaranteed to have dual-core processing power. While it’s true that ‘Doubleshot’ could refer to the slide-out QWERTY, it’s getting to a point where flagship phones need to have the extra processing grunt to keep up with the competition.

What do you think? Looking forward to the Doubleshot, or just signed up for an HTC Sensation? Let us know on the Gadget Helpline Twitter feed.
