It’s shaping up to be a very productive time of year for HTC, as yet another Android smartphone they plan to release this year has appeared online a little ahead of schedule.
Named the HTC Explorer, this is a fairly dinky little smartphone aimed at the budget conscious customer who wants to get in on the Android action. It has a 3.2-inch display, much smaller than what we’ve become used to with the likes of the HTC Desire range. In fact, the Explorer is around about the same size as the HTC Wildfire and Wildfire S handsets.
Rumour has it that the HTC Explorer (formerly known as ‘Pico’) has a 600MHz processor, 384MB RAM, 512MB ROM, a 5-megapixel rear camera and all the usual connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth.
The press shot above shows us that the HTC Explorer will join the HTC Rhyme and Sensation XE in offering the latest HTC Sense 3.5 user interface, which features software such as video rental app HTC Watch.
HTC Sense 3.5 runs over the top of the Explorer’s main operating system which is Android Gingerbread, though exactly which version will be installed remains to be known.
We’re still trying to find out when we will officially hear about the HTC Explorer, though the date on the screen in the above press pic shows Thursday September 29th – a clue perhaps?
As with the Wildfire and Wildfire S, we expect this dainty little smartphone to be available free on most, if not all contracts. Price will most likely sit around the £200 mark.
