HTC Plan to Make a Flagship Tablet After Nexus 9

Following their new found confidence in manufacturing tablets; thanks to the Nexus 9, HTC now have plans to launch a tablet all of their own in 2015.

The news was brought to light when Focus Taiwan reported that HTC CFO Chang Chia-lin confirmed the company’s intention to bring the HTC brand back to tablets.

The forthcoming device doesn’t seem to be trying to compete too heavily with the Nexus 9 however. In the report Chang strongly hinted that the new tablet won’t be a budget buy but a more middle-to-high end device as budget tablets don’t have “a profitable market,“.

HTC North Asia President Jack Tong “There is actually a bit more room for growth and product differentiation in the high-end and mid-tier tablet segments,” The tablet is rumoured to be priced around the £319 mark, which would fit nicely into their target market bracket.

HTC haven’t manufactured a tablet since the HTC Flyer back in 2011, which wasn’t much of a success. So much so that HTC never actually revealed their sales figures for the device.

It seems to have taken Google’s trust with their Nexus 9 device to bring HTC’s tablet making confidence back up, allowing them to jump back into the tablet making world.
