HTC release Android Sense SDK

HTC has taken to the stage at the Uplinq 2011 conference in San Diego and has announced that its smartphone company will be launching and running a new SDK (Software Developers Kit) for its HTC Sense Android User Interface.

The HTC Sense UI is the biggest (and possibly best) of the user interfaces that use Google Android and its something that HTC are very proud of. What the SDK means is that HTC will allow developers to use the HTC software + Android and build their own specific HTC Sense based Apps a, Software and widgets.

The Apps and software would be specifically crafted towards the new Sense 3.0 which will be coming our way on the HTC Sensation running Android 2.3.3 which brings all of the features of Android Gingerbread plus a new HTC Sense 3.0 user interface. Sense 3.0 will bring new features such as a 360 degree homepage carousel, 3D widgets, redesigned widgets and menus and a lock screen that can be unlocked to any app of your choosing (with four user-defined app options) as well a live lock screen wallpapers.

At the Uplinq 2011 HTC showcased a few HTC Sense specific Apps including a Picasa app that puts photos straight into the Sense Gallery, an art app by Zoodles that turns the HTC Flyer stylus into a paintbrush and a Spiderman game from Gameloft which uses Sense’s 3D ability.

Obviously HTC are trying to get some exclusive content for its products by introducing the SDK but if it is successful it will probably make other Android handset manufacturers follow suit.

Does the sound of HTC Specific apps get you excited or does it ruin the Android “Open” ethos? Let us know your thoughts below in our comments or on the @Gadget_Helpline twitter feed.
