Spoil-sport Nintendo has prevented sharp-witted Mario Kart 7 players from taking advantage of a few gameplay glitches that have up until now allowed a number of courses to be beaten in half the usual time on multiplayer online modes.
The bugs mean that Mario Kart 7 stages including Wuhu Island Loop, Wuhu Mountain Loop and GBA Bowser Castle 1 can be manipulated by driving a kart off of specific spots in cliffs and scenery – which is usually a bad thing, but this actually offers the wise a secret benefit, repositioning the kart in a more advanced spot on the track. Nintendo has now released an update which stops these exploits when playing against others in online karting competitions and gamers who attempt to play through their Wi-Fi connection will find some game modes blocked if they have not updated their system.
Single play and locally connected Wi-Fi gaming will be unaffected but to still challenge fellow racers across the globe you will need to follow these steps with your Nintendo 3DS and Maro Kart 7 game:
Insert Mario Kart 7 card into Nintendo 3DS slot
Turn on 3DS and Connect to Wi-Fi
Access “System Settings” through the HOME screen
Find and Tap “Other Settings” and then “System Update”
(This assures your 3DS system is up to date to allow the next step)
Return to HOME screen
Find and Tap “Nintendo eShop”
Find “Mario Kart 7 Update Data” and tap “Download Software”
These steps will bring your Nintendo 3DS system and game up to speed and the update is completely free!
Mario Kart 7 pulled up on the Nintendo 3DS handheld on November 28th and is the much-anticipated follow-up to the classic racer featuring a cast of popular Nintendo characters including Mario himself, brother Luigi and Princess Peach, in a huge selection of colourful and chaotic courses. The series is heralded as one of the best multiplayer titles ever and its appeal is still as strong today. Many gaming characters will attempt to take the cup from the leader this year, including Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii as well as PAC-MAN Kart Rally on Windows Phones.
